Firefighting is rigorous work requiring a special skill-set. Candidates must be willing to commit the time and energy to grow in the field through continued education, drills, teamwork, and resolute commitment. The work is intense, but the rewards are plentiful. The satisfaction of helping others and serving your community is an investment in yourself.
Membership is open to men and women over 18 years of age. We enroll candidates in a 164-hour entry-level Firefighter 1 course at the Bergen County Law & Public Safety Institute. This class introduces the student to the basics of nationally recognized firefighting techniques through classroom instruction and hands-on drill sessions. Successful completion results in National Certification as a Basic Firefighter and allows the firefighter to perform under direct supervision.
Junior membership is open to young men and women 16 to 18 years of age. Junior members participate in emergency calls and take part in multiple department functions in a support role to the senior members.
